What is colour profiling?

Colour profiling is a way of describing behavioural preferences using four colours: red, yellow, green and blue. Each colour stands for a set of preferences — for example how directly you like to communicate, how quickly you like to decide, and how much detail you want before you act. Most people are a mix of all four colours, with one or two that show up more strongly.

It is not a test you pass or fail, and it does not measure ability, intelligence or potential. It describes preferences — the way you tend to do things when you are not thinking about it.

People usually use it for one practical reason: once you can describe your own preferences, it becomes much easier to notice other people's, and to adapt how you communicate with them.

Want to understand the idea first? Read our guide to colour profiling.

The four colours

Four sets of preferences. Nearly everyone is a mix, with one or two showing more strongly.

Red

Direct and decisive

A preference for pace, focus and getting to the point. Comfortable making decisions, keen to move things forward, and usually more interested in the outcome than the detail of how you get there.

Yellow

Expressive and social

A preference for ideas, energy and involving people. Enjoys talking things through, thinking out loud, and building enthusiasm around something new.

Green

Steady and considerate

A preference for stability, listening and looking after relationships. Takes time over decisions, values consistency, and pays attention to how change affects people.

Blue

Precise and analytical

A preference for accuracy, structure and evidence. Wants the detail, checks the reasoning, and would rather get it right than get it fast.

These descriptions summarise behavioural preferences only. The profiling assessment is provided by C-me. Designedly arranges your initial access and supports you with the results.

Why know your profile?

The point is not to put yourself in a box. It is to give yourself language for things you already half-notice — and then do something useful with it.

Communication

Notice when your natural style is landing well, and when it is getting in the way.

Decision making

Understand how much information you need before you act — and why other people need more, or less.

Working with others

See why some working relationships feel effortless and others take more energy.

Understanding preferences

Separate what someone is doing from how they prefer to do it.

Recognising patterns

Spot the situations where you consistently thrive, and the ones that consistently drain you.

Adapting communication

Make small, deliberate adjustments to how you brief, ask, challenge and explain.

Questions

What is a colour personality profile?

It is a short written profile describing your behavioural preferences using four colours — red, yellow, green and blue. It describes how you tend to communicate, decide and work with others, based on how you answer an online questionnaire.

What do red, yellow, green and blue mean?

Broadly: red describes a preference for pace and directness, yellow for ideas and involving people, green for steadiness and relationships, and blue for detail and accuracy. Almost everyone shows a mix of all four.

Can I have more than one colour?

Yes. Most people have a combination, with one or two colours showing more strongly than the others. Your profile shows the mix rather than assigning you a single label.

Is this a personality test?

It is not a test in the pass-or-fail sense, and it does not measure ability. It is a questionnaire that describes preferences — how you tend to do things, not how well you do them.

How long does the questionnaire take?

Around 10–15 minutes for most people. It is an approximate guide rather than a fixed time — you can take as long as you need.

What's the difference between the Mini and Full Profile?

The Mini Profile is a concise introduction: your colour preference combination, adapted and natural behaviour, a behavioural overview, strengths, challenges, engagement, team contribution, handling setbacks and role agility. The Full Profile goes deeper and adds areas such as resilient strengths, areas for development, blind spots, effective communication, communicating with different colour preferences, working preferences, managing stress and action learning.

How do I get my profile?

After payment, Designedly emails your C-me questionnaire link to the address you gave at checkout. Once you complete the questionnaire, your digital profile is available to you immediately.

How long does it take?

The only wait is between your payment and us sending your questionnaire link, because that step is arranged by a person. After that, the questionnaire takes around 10–15 minutes and your digital profile is available as soon as you finish.

Can I get 1:1 support with my profile?

Yes — you can enquire about an optional 60-minute 1:1 Profile Session with a Designedly coach. It is separate from the Mini and Full Profile and is arranged by enquiry.
